First Poster For Dredd Arrives Online

So much is being made of The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises, but there's still one late yea-in-the-year comic book movie that we shouldn't forget about: Dredd. Directed by Pete Travis and starring the characters created by Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner, the movie isn't getting a big summer release like its brethren, but instead is set to come out in September with Karl Urban as the titular judge, jury and executioner. Because of its later release we haven't gotten to see much from the film other than the occasional still, but today brings the biggest piece of marketing material yet.

Lionsgate has sent JoBlo the first official poster for Dredd. Stark and minimalist, it's actually a pretty cool poster that does a good job teasing the movie and the suit. Check out the poster below and head over to the source to also check out two new stills.
The even better news? When posters are released it typically means that the first trailer isn't far off. Stay tuned here on Cinema Blend in the coming days/week and we'll have it for you.

Dredd is set in a violent future where laws have begun to crumble and it becomes the responsibility of the police to prevent and punish crime. The story follows one particular police officer, Judge Dredd, teams up with a young agent named Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to hunt down a dangerous, reality-bending drug called SLO-MO. Lena Headey stars as the villain, Madeline 'Ma-Ma' Madrigal. The script was written by Alex Garland of 28 Days Later and Sunshine fame and the movie will be released on September 21st.
